Teeth Whitening

There are a variety of methods you can use to whiten your teeth from professional teeth whitening procedures performed at a dentist to natural remedies, to do-it-yourself off-the-counter products.

Unfortunately, not everyone is equally suited to use teeth whiteners. Ideal candidates are those who have healthy gums and teeth without fillings. If you have plaque or other dental problems, do check with your dentist on your suitability for having your teeth whitened because if your teeth are not in an appropriate condition, a whitening procedure (whether at the dentist or done at home) may not provide as effective results.

If you are uncomfortable with chemically enhanced or artificial products, there are ways in which you can whiten the color of your teeth naturally. Some of these methods make use of natural herbs to lighten the discoloration or stains on teeth. A major drawback of this method is that it may not work as fast or as effectively as products using chemical agents. However, you can be rest assured that lightening your teeth this way will cause less harm to your teeth and gums. When trying out natural products or techniques, try not to use any acidic solutions like lemon juice as these have the potential to cause damage to your mouth.

A very popular whitening procedure done by a dentist is the laser whitening system that uses a Hydrogen Peroxide agent applied on the teeth followed by a laser light source that activates the Peroxide to bleach stains and discolorations deep within the teeth. This procedure will cost you a small bundle but is generally very fast and effective as results are guaranteed after just one session. A session using this technique often takes less than an hour to be performed.

For convenience, many people opt to try removing the stains and discolorations on their teeth with products that you can use at home. There are numerous home teeth whitening systems available on the market - with different brands, varying effects and costs. These products include toothpastes to systems that may require the use of a mouth guard, special solutions, and so on. This method of lightening your pearly whites is easily available and will cost less than a trip to the dentist. The effectiveness of this option will depend on the type of system you choose to use, the brand, the consistency of use and of course, your teeth's suitability.
