Teeth Whitening System

If you're looking to invest in a good quality teeth whitening system, it will help to know the different types of systems available to the job for you. There are two basic categories of systems designed to brighten your teeth, they are the home system and the office system.

Home whitening systems are exactly that - to be used at home. These are a cheaper and more convenient option in comparison to the office system and include a wide range of products, from special toothpastes to gels. While all toothpastes work to clean and whiten the teeth, specially designed whitening toothpastes go one step further to remove stains on the teeth. This is because they contain polishing agents that are not necessarily found in regular toothpastes. The polishing you'll receive from these special toothpastes, however, is but superficial as they do not contain any bleaching agents to remove deep stains.

Another product of the home system is gel. This will generally contain a bleaching agent - typically peroxide. A common application of this product is to use it twice a day, every day for at least two weeks in order to see results. The results are usually non-permanent and can last up to four months. Whitening strips are another home system that offers similar results to the gel. These are thin strips coated with a type of peroxide gel and generally used twice a day for at least two weeks.

Office teeth whitening systems are usually more effective and produce faster results than home systems. This option of brightening your smile will also generally involve a higher monetary investment at the onset. With an office whitening option, a bleaching agent is applied directly to your teeth. This is then activated using a laser or light source and results can often be seen after just one session with a dentist.

If you want to maintain your whiter, brighter teeth in the long run, you can have a procedure performed at the dentist's with the office teeth whitening system, followed by regular maintenance at home using one of the home-based products as recommended by your dentist. No matter which option you decide on, it is important that you check with a dental care professional to make sure that you are suitable for such a procedure (especially if you are keen on doing it yourself at home).
